Dualshock 4 Mic won't work

Hello,

I recently brought a new Dualshock 4 because my old ones had become tattered and broken. Upon getting this new controller I joined my friends party, plugged in my apple headphones, and I could hear them, but they couldn't hear me. The microphone worked with the other 2 controllers yet on my new controller it doesn't. Anyone have any ideas?
