Good evening, this is the email i sent Sony before realising there was a forum to use....please read:

The PS4 recognises the NAS through the Media Player just fine, it displays pictures and plays music just fine, but will only play MKV video...it will not play MP4 or AVI, in fact some AVI files don't even show. When i convert aN MP4 or AVI to MKV, it then works!
The MP4 and AVI files play just fine on other media players including VLC, on my Mac and mobile devices.
Your website says that it plays AVI and MP4 among others.
From looking it up on google i see the main gripe from users is that MKV files are a problem...not the others! Please tell me if there is a work around or solution, i really don't want to have to convert over a TB of media to MKV!!"
When i attempt to play a MP4 or Avi video, it loads for sometime before saying "cannot play the media"
Additionally, when i plug my usb stick in i can play any format video with no problems...very odd....
